It would already be better when the X was on the left side, because that is not where you are likely to click when coming from the down arrow that opens the history list. My problem is worsened by the fact that I only use IE from remote sessions (no Windows on the local machine) and such things as dynamically appearing widgets and tooltips often lag a bit in time. So by the time the system notices my click, it just starts putting the red X there. I consider it a bad UI. When SeaMonkey starts offering this deletion from the history list, the UI should be designed better than this.
