It used to be that, if I selected a link to a PDF file from a Web page,
the file would open in a SeaMonkey tab. Now, it opens in an Adobe
Reader window. How do I restore the opening in my browser?

I have tried following
<http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/cant-view-pdf-web.html> and
<https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/view-pdf-files-firefox-without-downloading-them?s=View+PDFs+in+browser&r=2&e=es&as=s#w_using-a-pdf-reader-plugin>
without success. I noticed during those attempts that, if I go to [Edit
Preferences] on the Adobe Reader menu bar and then select Internet
under Categories, the "Display PDF in browser" check box no longer exists.

Someone in the Adobe Reader Forum suggested selecting [Edit >
Preferences > Browser > Helper Applications] on the SeaMonkey menu bar
and then selecting "Use Adobe Reader (in SeaMonkey)" from the pull-down
list for Adobe Acrobat Document. However, the pull-down list has no
such entry.

Aha! The problem is indeed in SeaMonkey (Core or Toolkit??).

Just as about:plugins says "Adobe Acrobat", so does the pull-down list
of applications. Both mean "Adobe Reader", which is quite different
from "Adobe Acrobat".

Oops!! No, it is an Adobe problem. The properties of file nppdf32.dll
in SeaMonkey's plugins folder indicate "Adobe Acrobat" although the
version number (11.0.3.37) and SHA1 hash clearly make this an Adobe
Reader file. The nppdf32.dll for Adobe Acrobat on my PC has version
number 7.0.9.50.

In short, Adobe has misidentified nppdf32.dll for Adobe Reader as being
for Adobe Acrobat. This misidentification is then used by SeaMonkey.

I was having a similar problem. I fixed it by disabling the Adobe plug-in and using PDF.js to open the embedded Acrobat documents instead.
