Do the math: If a typical indent is five characters (I think it's less)
and a typical subject is 30 characters (I think it's less), then 104
characters will show you an entire subject plus 74 characters of indent,
or 15 levels. If you use a more realistic indent of three characters,
that gets you 25 levels.
For your example, indented four times, I see:
Re: I really can't agree with that, Paul Gallagher; one hundred and four
characters is a very small number in the great scheme of things, ...
I remember in my high school calculus class they began by explaining
about limits, and no matter what number we chose, the teacher could
choose another that was larger (or smaller, as he pleased). So no matter
what layout we provide, you can always devise a subject that won't fit,
but that's not the practical target we need to hit. Realistically, how
many subject lines are so long and also contain useful information after
the cutoff?
Paul, hereabouts, I regularly see threads that are indented to, and
past, the twentieth level. These are the ones where the subject goes off
into oblivion, and I note that your screen must be wider than mine or
you don't have the Accounts pane active, as yours is showing a lot more
than mine, but, even so, it still dissappears into oblivion!!
