I had never imagined trying to do that. It doesn't strike me as a

Copy/paste definitely doesn't work for me. I am curious, though, why you
wouldn't expect drag'n'drop of a text document to inline properly even
though a JPG does. From an algorithmic standpoint, it seems to be
same-same: embed an object inline in the main document and display. The
only thing that's changing is the MIME type.

Maybe cuz I'm not a computer programmer. I would expect dragging and
dropping files to an attachment window to work. And I would expect C&P
of "stuff" inside a file into a message body to work. I truly wonder if
it's not accidental that dropping a whole JPEG type file into a message
body even works.

That copy and paste of stuff 'inside a file' just means pasting from the clipboard. And this is unnecessarily limited functionality in which some objects from the clipboard are pasted fine and others are not. Being able to drag'n'drop into the message body is useful when you want to display attachments inline rather than have them as separate attachments. Generally, I don't use inline, but this is a nice way of skirting that issue in an ad hoc way.

The original question of "c&p from Desktop" didn't even make sense to me.

It makes perfect sense to me. I don't see why drag'n'drop should work for a particular BLOB when copy/paste of that same object from the clipboard fails. It's an artificial limitation that I assume is a function of the feature just not fitting into the programmers' work flow.

Ever notice that the questions that make little sense often have ZERO
additional input from the OP?

Little sense to you, perhaps. In any case, I suspect that people ask and then subsequently lurk for the answer.
