select Compose message

am the ONLY "me" in my address book.
Not only does my address not come up as the first in the auto-complete
list of choices, but the first choice doesn't even start with the
letters "me".
wth?
Anyone else?
On my system, if I begin typing "me," I get a list of candidates all
containing the string "me" in their name or email address. As luck
would
have it, none /begin/ with that string, but they all /contain/ it.
Thus, if I had you in my address book and began by typing "Welsh," your
entry would be among those offered. I think that's good, because if I
have a couple of dozen "Johns," it's easier to select by last name.
Well they used to, and should start, with "me", if you type "me". Luck
should not be involved, only logic.
"Luck" just means a logic you don't approve. I find the current logic
(matching any part of the name or address) useful, and that's why I said
so. I hope they don't "fix" it.
so if you wanted to send a message to a guy named "Mel" and you typed
"me" and the first result is "Sesame Street" you would say that is useful?
That isn't what I said, and you know it. I gave an example of how it
/is/ useful -- when I have lots of correspondents with the same first
name ("John") and I want to search by last name. The example would work
just as well if I had several "Geoffs" and I started typing "Welsh."
At any rate, you don't like it, and you want it changed, and I do like
it, and I don't want it changed. Good night.
