I've been using SM since the mid-2000's. Some where along the line I
got an desktop icon for Mail. Recently my old machine's hard-drive
started decomposing. I lost a lot of stuff, like my backup program.
Anyway is there a way to get one or make one. I do not always want
the browser but my email every day. The icon was the one in the
upper left corner of the mail window but of course much larger.
Assuming you've completed repairs and the machine is now reliable,
install SeaMonkey; part of that installation process should be the
creation of a desktop icon.
From there, you have two options:
(1) Within SM, go to Edit | Preferences | Appearance and check the box
When SeaMonkey starts up, open
[X] Mail & Newsgroups.
Then whenever you click the desktop icon for SeaMonkey, it will open
Mail & Newsgroups.
OR
(2) Make a copy of the desktop icon (a second one) and give each one a
distinct, memorable name such as "SeaMonkey Browser" and "SeaMonkey
Mail." For each one, right-click the icon, choose "Properties," and
change the target to read as follows:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\SeaMonkey\seamonkey.exe" -browser
"C:\Program Files (x86)\SeaMonkey\seamonkey.exe" -mail
(the part in quotation marks may vary depending on your operating
system; leave it alone)
Then you can click whichever one you want to get whichever part of the
program you want. This change will overrule whatever pref you set under
option (1).
