What's the secret to getting this to work? BTW, this just started
happening all of a sudden.

I know that Foxit installs itself as plugin, and my experience with opening attached PDFs is that SM launches Foxit in a browser window.

I was having an odd problem with Foxit (which I posted a question about some time ago), where opening something with Foxit was showing the download dialog not completing -- I could read the PDF, but couldn't get get the download dialog to dismiss. Recently, when I was poking with plugin settings, I found that I had set Foxit to ask for permission to activate, and when I changed the permission to "always", that problem went away.

At the moment, I don't have Foxit installed, as I'm getting annoyed at the increasing bloat, including the Cloud reading tool that you can uninstall, but can't opt out of installing.

Thus, I'm playing with PDFXchange, and I like what I see. It has a feel of being even lighter than Foxit, and minimal stuff with dodging third-party add-ons on installation. It also installs as a plug-in. I don't know how PDFX handles forms (for that matter, I've never established if current versions of Foxit handle forms correctly), but I rarely need forms.

As far as seeing gibberish display, I've never seen that particular problem. I suppose there could be some problem with Foxit that a reinstall of that might clear, but to me, this has the feel of a problem with the document itself. Have you tried saving the .PDF to your hard disk, and then opened in Foxit there?
