Good news, I think.

Kind of good news. Since Softmaker Office is a paid product, I wonder if this
will change the perception of Thunderbird as a free app. And with different
development tracks, how will inconsistencies between the two affect perceptions
of Thunderbird?

Dropping eMclient is an interesting choice. And for those of us who use Linux,
this news really doesn't affect us. Thanks.

Softmaker Office is a high quality product. Fast, efficient, almost bug-free and - unlike all the alternatives I know of - everything but bloated. (I've been using the Linux version for many years.) So my hope is that their commitment to Thunderbird will have a positive influence also on the quality of the mail component in Seamonkey.
