Nice article. Maybe SeaMonkey usage will bump up to 150,000 active
daily installs.
Who has access to the download and installation statistics? ;)
1. Go:
https://wiki.mozilla.org/SeaMonkey/StatusMeetings/2015-03-17#2.x_.28Last.2C_Current.2C_Next.29
2. Click on the "dataviz" link.

Phil, ref the "Usage by Version" graph, am I correct in reading this as
V 2.26 (blue) is slightly more popular (by download numbers) than V 2.30
(green) which is then more popular than all other versions (including
2.32 and 2.33) added together (purple)??
If so, that doesn't seem right!! ;-(
I've seen somewhere else ADI standing for "Active Daily Installations".
This looks like it explains it:
https://wiki.mozilla.org/ADI
Basically it's the number of running copies of SeaMonkey seen on each
day, based on the browser checking for updates to the blocklist. It
won't be 100% accurate, since some people disable that check, or can't
connect to the server, but should give a good indication of variations
in usage over time. Probably a better indication than counting
downloads, since some people will download something and never install,
or rarely use, it.
It looks to me like a stacked chart, so the width of each coloured band
(not the top of it) indicates the count. You can get the actual counts
by hovering over the chart. e.g. on 20 March (the latest available date)
there were:
- 4,363 active installs of 2.26
- 3,855 active installs of 2.30
- 102,713 active installs of other versions
The "Top N" dropdown to the right allows you to choose to see figures
broken out for more versions. I'm not quite sure how they determine the
"top N" versions, as setting it to 15 reveals that on 20 March there were:
- 53,071 active installs of 2.33
- 25,497 active installs of 2.32
- 4,900 active installs of 2.31
All higher (2.32 and 2.33 much higher) than 2.26 and 2.30 on that most
recent count. Even integrated over the period shown on the graph (almost
3 months), 2.32 looks far more active than 2.26 or 2.30, so I'm not sure
why those versions appear as the "top" 2.
Mark.
Thank you, Mark, I now understand. One wonders why "they" don't separate
out the newer versions, maybe "they" only list the most popular two
individually.
