I tried to update from SM 2.25, which I was using, to SM
2.38. All looked OK, until I discovered that all my passwords were
gone! I tried SM 2.33, with the same result. Now I'm back to SM 2.25
and all is working fine. I'd like to update, but not if I have to lose
all my passwords!

I ran across a few quirks when updating from 2.26.1 to 2.33. As far as I
can tell from a related bug report
(https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1092810#c16), it looks
like any update from <=2.30 to >=2.31 is probably affected.

Since it sounds like your passwords are still working having reverted to
2.25, try the following:
- Create a backup of your profile (just in case!)
- In 2.25, remove the master password; ise Edit > Preferences > Privacy
& Security > Master Passwords > Change Password, enter the current
password and leave the new password blank (DO NOT use "Reset Password"
as that clears all your stored passwords).
- Upgrade to the latest version.
- Check that the passwords are still there.
- Set the master password again.

Details of my experiences posted to this list are archived here:

Don't just copy the steps in my first post there though - removing the
master password before updating is a much easier workaround which I
didn't come across until later!

I hope that helps.

Mark.

I'm embarrassed to admit that i don't use a master password, so I would guess this is not my problem.
