That's a plausible theory, but for me it hasn't been a recent change.
Perhaps various local offices have different practices in the vast
Verizon conglomerate, and they're standardizing.

Glad you resolved it.


A few years ago they made the change from no security connection with encrypted password to SSL/TLS with plain password.
