I finally got SM2.45 installed on WinXPPro, and with a clean test profile the video plays. So I reckon that you'd need to work down (maybe 2.43?) to 2.40 to see where it finally dies. WinXP is a PITA for me as it's still on VMWare and slow (plus have to disable Avast to get any progress at all) - I'll move it (the XP VM) over to VirtualBox nex week & will get a significant performance boost.
I got the 'can't play' warning when I brought SM2.45 back up - in about:config I enabled 'media.mediasource.webm.enabled;true', cleared cookies, cache/all and tried again and it worked. Give that a try in 2.40.
