I added the following to "Exclusions" within Avast:

If you go to Seamonkey's browser settings, that is the path used
to check for updates. And since I added that path to the Exclusions
in Avast, I never received the warning messages again. If I recall,
it all started when I updated Avast to the next available update.
So, I'm assuming, they made some changes on their end. Maybe it
will work for you as well.

In the browser I went to Edit, Preferences, Browser and looked at
the various categories but see nothing that would tell me the "path
used to check for updates" Sorry for being dense

It's not where Glen said it is. It's in about:config at the key app.update.url.

But it's not a valid URL that you can browse to because a web server can't interpret variables such as "%VERSION%." I don't know if Avast is smart enough either, but I rather doubt it.
