In that case, has anyone notified the maintainer of Ubuntuzilla that the
official release of 2.48 is now available? I would like to get back to
using that repository to update SeaMonkey as opposed to a manual install
every time an update comes out.
On my Ubuntu 16.04.3, the 2.48 can't start.
How did you install it? Here is how I did it on many systems: Open a
terminal and follow steps 1-6 and then once you confirm it's working run
step 7

cd Downloads
[2]
wget
https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/seamonkey/releases/2.48/contrib/seamonkey-2.48.en-US.linux-x86_64.tar.bz2
[3]
tar -jxvf seamonkey-2.*.tar.bz2
[4]
sudo mv /opt/seamonkey /opt/seamonkey.bak
[5]
sudo mv ./seamonkey /opt/seamonkey
[6]
sudo chown -vR root:root /opt/seamonkey
[7]
sudo rm -Rv /opt/seamonkey.bak
