Oops. My bad English again since I am not good with it. I should had
said "according" instead of "from". :P
I understood perfectly, just having some fun. Natives make exactly the
same kind of awkward sentences by accident. In this case, the joke works
because "remove" is often followed by "from."
If I were editing this, I'd put the attribution first, where it can't be
misunderstood:
"From/Judging by/According to/Based on this newsgroup thread's replies,
it looks like there's no way to remove those extra overlays."
