I'm not sure if I've understood what you mean by "save the link" but, if you're currently saving it as a file, a slightly quicker workaround would be to right-click the link and select "Copy Link Location", open Firefox, and paste into the address bar (or "awesome bar" or whatever they're calling it this week...)
