In 2.53.3 (Linux LXLE x86, Ubuntu 16.04), I have Layout: Wide View

new compared with 2.49.5 and earlier.
#1 There is a strange horizontal striping (alternate lines) at the
RHS of the folder pane behind the scroll-bar. Presumably some off-by-N
theme issue?
So which theme are you using? ...
SeaMonkey Default. For some reason I have to add this chrome CSS to
align the scrollbar right and obscure the striping, as it's being moved
left 13px: definitely a change from 2.49.x:
#mailContent scrollbar[orient="vertical"] {
margin-left: 0 !important;
}
#2 About 1 in 3 clicks on a folder in the folder pane fail to
change the thread pane to the newly highlighted folder. Cursor
navigation appears to work reliably. Something is swallowing clicks?
First thing I'd suggest is replace the batteries in the mouse (if it
takes batteries), or try a different mouse. ...
While the mouse (Synaptics Touchpad, built into laptop) is rubbish, it's
not the cause of the issue which affects specifically the message folder
pane in SM 2.53.3, and not any other application, including SM 2.49.x. A
USB mouse has the same issue. For instance, the Preferences dialog which
has a tree-folder structure (I haven't checked the XUL/XBL to see if it
matches the Mail layout) doesn't have the issue.
#3 Possibly related to #2? The Error Console reports "Too much
recursion" for certain lines in
chrome://calendar/content/calendar-ui-utils.js (at or in function
setElementValue()) - some event handler is being churned?
I don't see that, and I do actively use Lightning (the calendar add-on).
...
Thanks, it's the right version, but quite possibly some extension is
confusing things. As you suggested before, it needs a test on a clean
profile.
