Connecting to it is challenging. Evolution refuses it, mutt too.

set imap_user="myusername"
set spoolfile={172.29.0.1:3143}INBOX
set folder={172.29.0.1:3143}~/mail

If i look directly in the mail spooldir, i see that it created the user
'myusername@null', so something weird happens

No idea how to implement that de-centralized. Also you don't want to
depend on 1 server keeping it up-to-date.
How does the freenet forum work?
