You have what may be the "worst case scenario" of transferring data from a customized ebase. You were not the customize and do not seem to have access to the customize. You are unlikely to be able to get enough long distance assistance to make a migration work smoothly for you.

Your best bet is to recruit an experienced ebase consultant to do the transfer. Someone will have to explain how the data and fields that are "non-standard" are being used. New functions that were added to you ebase 1 version will need to be recreated in your new version of ebase or abandoned. In short a lot of work - even for an experienced ebase consultant and truly daunting if you are not.

As long as your customized version one database is meeting your needs you might want to consider migrating it to FileMaker 5 and continuing to use it rather than move to v103 and need to move data and loose your customizations. The more you customize the more you are on your own (meaning that folks on this group won't understand your ebase well enough to be a help, at least at times) In you may want to stay with what you have got.

Subject: [support] 1.0 to 1.03, mac to pc.....

I have written to the list before with this problem and have gotten a couple responses. However, the problem has changed somewhat.

When I started working here, over a year ago, we had just gotten a copy of ebase 1.0 for our Mac. That copy of Ebase already had a lot of changes on it. Some of the "unmodifiable" layouts were also changed. I am assuming this is what one person was referring to when he said our ebase had been 'hacked into'.

Our database of over 6000 records is now on that ebase 1.0 on the (painfully slow) mac. I want to transfer our database to our much newer PC. I have (finally) purchased FileMaker 5.0 and have installed it on the PC. I have downloaded Ebase 1.03 and installed it on the PC. I tried importing the first 100 records from the old ebase in tab separated text. I didn't think it would work and it didn't, but I wanted to try. I don't know all the changes that were made to the old ebase. I have been told and maybe the only thing to do would be to transfer all the records manually. But, before I do that, I wanted to post to the list again and see if anyone has a better idea.

Well, what do you think? Should I just go ahead and start transfering all the data manually? Or is there a better way?

Thank You!
