Hi Gary,
You asked if I would be interested in a User's Group, the answer it YES! I would
very much like to do it! It's a bit crazy at work this week so I will call you
next week to talk more about it. For now, I have a question about moving from one
version to another.
What I did was to take the names.100 file with FMP 4 and move it from our (old,
painfully slow) mac, to the (newer faster) PC with version .103 and FMP 5. Since
we are not using many of the features of ebase, and since it seems to have worked
okay, do you think I can go ahead, or do you think there may be problems? I
originally wanted to put 100 on the PC but couldn't get a copy of it. After talking to
a couple of people that are more familiar with Ebase and FMP, and after
finally getting FMP 5, I thought I was going to have to re-enter all the data onto the
PC manually. So far exporting the names file seems to have worked okay.
We have only been using the Home, Data Entry 1, Payment and Output screens.
Haven't been using any source codes. I will put in the modified contact flags by hand
as well as the payments, anywhere from 400 to 750 records depending how I do it. So, I
only put in the names file and will build on that with the newer version as I
learn more about Ebase. I am very happy with the newer version. I sort of started in
the middle with a version very modified by someone else, and tried to figure it
out. One very knowledgeable person that looked at our Ebase said it had been "hacked
into". There was no help file available on the Mac. I think the new one on the
PC will be okay with the information I have transfered. But I would like to hear your
opinion.
Well, it's getting late. Thanks for your help!
Laura
