A 100mb zip drive costs about $80, disks cost about $8 each. A 650mb CD
writer starts at $150, but the disks cost 25 cents each.
The CD writer is far more flexible, holds more, and will be a lot cheaper if
you make lots of backups.
On the subject of having multiple ebase folders on your hard disk, Filmaker
has a nasty flaw. When it tries to open a file, it first looks in the
current folder. If for whatever reason it can't find it (because the file
is damaged or accidentally deleted), Filemaker may start looking in other
folders for a file of the same name and will open it when it finds it. The
bad thing is that it doesn't tell you it's doing this, so it's possible to
have your active data files spread over multiple directories without you
knowing about it.
If you want multiple ebase folders on your disk (for backup purposes),
compress them with something like WINZIP.
