That's not really random, but...

It wouldn't be too tough to write a script to run through a found set 
and omit 3 records in a row and skip the next, for example. It occurs 
to me that to select a really random set, for what ever use, you 
could generate a field with the function random, sort by that field, 
and omit all but a the number you want.
