I just tried this on a client's system that is set up just as you
describe - FMP Server 5, accessing the file with FMP 5 clients.
Deleting a record proceeded just as advertised. That is, I hit the
blue delete button on a names record, I get a warning that it's gone
for good, I confirm, and the record (along with related records in
custom, profile, and summary) is gone. A record of the deletion
action is created in the delete file.
What happens when you attempt a deletion? Tell us what you do, which
buttons you hit, what dialogs result, what you respond, etc., etc.,
