Title: Re: [support] RE: Likely ebase upgrades, implementing in my 'version' of ebase
Sigh... I realize you are right about the need to document. Thanks for the urging.  A question: what do you mean "regularly updating the find fields"?

Jannah,

My sense of database management is that it's very important to do the detailed records of modifications you make.  To me, it's on the same level of importance as making regular backups and regularly updating the find fields.

When you upgrade to (say) ebase 2.0, it'll have its own look (similar to unmodified ebase .102/.103?  I don't know, but would guess so).  If you want to re-add the customized features you had added to the earlier version (fields you've added to screens, other custom layouts, additional fields you've added to the database, new relationships, etc.), you'll need a careful record of what these are.

I know in the short time I've been working with ebase, I've already made more modifications than my memory can track -- I'm already dependent on the detailed records to reconstruct what I've done.

I hope these thoughts are helpful.

We've just adopted ebase and I am planning to make a number of changes. To document them all in detail feels like a big task. What plans or revisions are likely to happen for ebase, how many changes and how difficult would it be for "a filmaker pro" to implement them in my 'version' from ebase's instructions? I certainly understand that I can only expect an educated guess here... Thanks, Jannah Riemer Data Manager Cornucopia Community Advocates Sedona, AZ
