Henry,

You are correct. One of the main changes between version 4.x and 5.x of
fileMaker Pro is in the file format. They do not mix. You have to use
FileMaker 4.x to host files accessible by other FileMaker 4.x clients, and
FileMaker 5.x to host files accessible by other FileMaker 5.x clients.

You will have to convert your 4.1 file to the 5.x format, and then serve
data accessible by other 5.x clients. There are no functionalities that are
not accessible, as version 1.0x of ebase was developed in FileMaker 4.x
(including 1.03 which is in the FileMaker 5.x file format).

Also note that once you convert a file from FileMaker 4.x format to 5.x, you
cannot go back. We have not seen any indication with ebase that this might
be a problem, but just to say that you cannot open a 5.x file with 4.x.
