Hello -
I've discovered with a fairly elaborate non-eBase FileMaker 5.0 (Mac)
database of over 120,000 records that FM (version 3.0 through 5.0)
does not seem able to make use of more than about 48 MB of RAM,
regardless of how much is allocated to the FM application. This seems
to contribute to a major slowdown, with lots of disk access being
required for a file that (based on disk space used) ought to have
been able to fit into allotted memory with room to spare... (I
haven't tried moving this to eBase so far because it will require a
lot of customizing, which I don't yet feel familiar enough with eBase
to undertake.)
Can you advise as to whether FM 5.5 addresses the full memory
available to it any better than its predecessors? (Or whether I'm
just mishandling FileMaker somehow?)
TIA,
Pierce Butler
