Jack,
thanks for the news that there's a way to overcome the abbreviation substitution. And 
thanks for a software solution.  As an ebase/FileMaker novice, I'm not  sure I'm up 
for this patch. With a good backup,  I might see how far I can get.  At the very 
least, I'll stop looking in the manuals for a way out.
