John,

I'm just back from a conference and short vacation and saw this
exchange. Jack's solution really isn't that hard to implement, so make
a backup and give it a try. If you need help, feel free to call and I
can walk you through it. It'd be quick and, of course, I wouldn't
charge for a little assistance like that... especially since Jack was
the one to offer the solution.

To implement Jack's second solution (which is better, I think, than
Gary's), you'll need to find the ADDRESS LINE/LABEL field (you don't
have to mess with any of the layouts to do this solution). You'd need
to go into File->Define->Fields, select the ADDRESS LINE/LABEL field,
then enter the changes as suggested. Also, create the field Jack
mentioned, then place it on the Data Entry 1 screen in layout mode.

Jack's first solution (which is less than optimal b/c of the formatting
issues such as stripping out periods, etc.), you'd need to replace the
ADDRESS LINE/LABEL field on each of the label layouts and replace it
with the ADDRESS LINE/LETTER field. You need to do this b/c ebase uses
several different label layouts to deal with such issues as householding
and "loading" the label with lots of membership data (such as expiration
date).
