I think this is all "as expected". If you use a backup program to copy
files onto a CD, then the restore program that is the companion to the
backup program makes sure your files look just as they did when you backed
them up.
On the other hand, if you simply copy the files from your hard disk to your
CD (drag-and-drop using Windows Explorer or My Computer), then copy them
back onto your hard disk, they will indeed be set to read-only. It's a
simple matter to then select all of the files, right-click to get the menu,
select "Properties" and deselect "Read-Only".
