The LCV list enhancement program is great, but not everyone qualifies to
participate, and the updates only happen every year or two.

There's another way. In many places, the congressional district can be
determined by knowing the zip code, that is, everyone in the zip code is in
the same CD.

The ZIP_ file in ebase can be used to fill in other fields, such as CD,
county, time zone, etc., based on a zip code match. You'll notice the city
and state get filled in automatically when you enter a zip code.

I've created a relatively complete and accurate ZIP_ file with about 41,000
unique zip codes. You can find it at:

http://www.lelievre.net/downloads.htm

You can use it to update your existing records (using the Filemaker REPLACE
command). Ebase is already programmed to auto-fill the CONGRESSIONAL
DISTRICT field in the NAMES_ file when adding new records.

A lot of this congressional district info will change over the next year or
so as district lines are re-drawn, so there will be lots of updating to do.
I'll publish updated ZIP_ files as I get new data.

Let me know if you need more info.

Thanks to everyone who responded and offered me information on this.
I'm following up now.
