We run FMS on Win2K Server, 633Mhz, 128Meg ram, scsi drive. It is the domain controler and servers some files, e.g. QuickBooks. We have 2-3 QB users and could have 10 ebase users, but most of them just do a few name lookups a day. Really only one does active data entry most of the time. We have about 20,000 records.

Subject: [support] filemaker server planning?

FileMaker Server gurus--

Would you think it feasible/advisable to run FileMaker Server on a Windows 2000 Server that was also functioning as the primary domain controller/file/backup server for a small (~15 user) workgroup?  Assume this was an up-to-date machine with at least 256MB RAM a ~1 GHZ P-III and your basic SCSI hard drive.

Or, would you want to put FMS on its own Win2K Pro workstation, recognizing that it would probably not be as beefy of a machine?

We're talking probably no more than 5-6 simultaneous users, and an ebase 1.x data set with under 50,000 records.

Any thoughts much appreciated.

best,
jon
