sorry I forgot we are currently only handling contributions, so these 
kinds of queries are a cinch!

wash my keyboard with soap, but if all else fails, export the necessary 
data to a spreadsheet, where further analysis would be much easier (for 
me at least) than calculated keys and sum()

alternatively, you could temporarily populate a Custom Field with the 
Date of Last Donation (a replace), and do a simple Find using the two 
fields (now identical data under the same relationships I think) but 
find for 2000 in one field and 2001 in the other field
