Yes, these are major customizations, probably more than can be 
specified through email messages. You should spend some time talking 
with a consultant who can listen to your needs and direct your effort.

Yes, Using a value list and check boxes is one way to do this. Do I 
understand that you want to be able to assign more than one staff 
member to each record.

Seems to me that who asked for a gift is a single piece of data that 
could be put in a new field in the payments file. Campaign is a 
component of the source code, isn't it? You can search for each of 
the six components of the source code individually to find payments 
relating to that campaign.

Value lists don't work well for this application, because you don't 
know in advance the list of potential entries (like you do for staff 
and board). If you want to be able to relate any number of people 
from your file to any other record, you really need to create a new 
related file to hold these relationships.
