Yeah,
it's on a network, server seems to have all the files open, but contacts is
acting funny -- what do I need to tell them to do to troubleshoot
this?

The contacts file is opened only on demand - that is, whenever information is required of it such as displaying a screen with related fields on it. If your group is using ebase on a network, and the host is started with the standard script, when a request for data from contacts is made from a client machine, you will get the message you describe. The host needs to have all the files running. Using a peer-to-peer setup, you need to do something non-standard on the host to open all the files.
