Unfortunately this won't work as long as you use the runtime
application. The file formats are identical on both platforms, but
the application isn't. If you use the commercial version of
FileMaker, you have a different application on the PC than on the
Mac, and you can pass the data files back and forth with no trouble.
The PC runtime application won't launch on the Mac, and a Mac runtime
won't recognize the PC files as part of the solution it was bundled
with. You can certainly back the files up on your mac (including the
.exe file), meaning store them in the event of a crash, but you won't
be able to open ebase. As Walt says, you will quickly find that email
isn't a useful way to exchange large files. Best to get a removable
drive (cd burner or zip) for the PC for backup.

I'm not sure how you assign the member numbers. You won't be able to
change the record numbers (entry numbers?) - they are involved in too
many relationships and calculations to even think about it. I would
suggest just using the record number as the member number, whatever
it is. No particular reason (other than compulsive tidiness <g>) for
the numbers to be sequential.
