There should be no difference between double clicking on a shortcut on the
desktop and in whatever directory it is installed in unless someone moved
the directory without fixing the shortcut. Similarly you should be able to
double click on the ebase.10x file and the file associations should cause it
to do the right thing unless someone screwed up the file associations. You
should be able to double click on the names_1.0x file as well as it notices
that ebase.10x has not been opened and it opens it. The only thing strange
about this path is that (at least I) wind up not on the home screen layout
but in a letter. This leads one to believe that your ebase.10x file is
screwed up. It never changes so it can always be replaced by one from the
original distribtion without any effect on the rest of the files, however
because it never changes it is very unlikely to get damaged either. I
suspect you have more damage than is apparent. You need to talk to the
volunteer and ask them if they did a recover or something else bad. I have
not tried starting from names and then trying to act as host. There may be
something wrong with that path.
