Title: Re: [support] deceased members still in household records
Thanks Cecily, you raise a good point, and you're right, I wouldn't want to delete anyone who had payment records associated with them.  This individual did not - his "other half" was the primary member and had been much more involved with our organization, so the financial records are all associated with her.   I'm glad to know your solution to this though, for future knowledge.

Walt, thank you for your reccomendation.  I swear I did the houseshold change as you suggested, but perhaps there was something quirky about the way I did it.  Anyway, glad to know about how to do it "under the hood".

Have a good weekend everyone.

This may be too late, but I would highly discourage deleting anyone from ebase who has payments, whether deceased or not.

the solution, if someone dies and has been a supporter, is to create a field (we call it "no mail reason") in which you include "deceased" as a list of options.  Likewise, you can flag anyone who has requested to be removed from your mailing list, has moved without forwarding addresses etc.....  This way you can always omit anyone with anything in that field, by using an "*".

The reason you don't want to delete anyone with payments is that if you run calculations/report (etc...) from a historical standpoint, and you've deleted people with payments, your numbers will be erroneously low.

And, thinking about the deceased issue, what about those who you actually inherit $ from?  If you were to delete them from Ebase, you couldn't enter the funds in, and track them.  And, if you have a full-blown planned giving program this would be a real problem.

Just food for thought....

Subject: [support] deceased members still in household records

Hello - this is an odd one...

One of our members passed away this winter - while I've deleted him from
our database and removed his wife from the "household" that was created
for them, his name still shows up in her 'household' record when I export
data for a mailing.  This is very distressing as you can imagine.  What is
going on?  How can I correct this?

TIA,
Calista
