Carl, that's inspired, I had been thinking of the import\update, but 
hadn't thought it through to using the ebase import routine to 
update. I'll add, since Kathleen didn't mention in the original post 
which version of FileMaker she is using, that the import\update 
feature is not available on version 4. If she is using 4 it would 
still be possible to get the data in to ebase, but it would be way 
more complicated, using a relookup or a script with set field steps.
