I have never seen this issue, but I would be surprised (if it did
exist) if it were unique to pfSense and not BSD in general.  The
typical CD I burn is my ratty old Memorex CD-RW with scratches all
over it (been re-written ~70 times) via USB over a no-name IDE bridge
to an old Lite-on burner, and I never have issues.  Maybe I've just
been lucky.

I'm sure suggestions are welcome, but they use the standard FreeBSD
bootloader, from which I've never really seen a problem.  As Scott
mentioned, they also offer the option of using GRUB
