I tried booting one of my NexCom NSA-1042 with a nightly RELENG_1
(20080526-0555). As soon as the kernel loads (just after the press
enter to
boot /boot/kernel/kernel), the console output stops. After some tens
seconds, I hear the usual pfSense beep, but I cannot send any
command, nor
receive any feedback/menu/prompt.
Obviously I tried all the most usual serial speeds
(9600,38400,115200).
The same box boots fine (serial console OK) with the nightly build
20080525-0340 of RELENG_1_2.
Do you think this could be a problem of FreeBSD-7 vs. FreeBSD-6? or
some
missing bits in pfSense RELENG_1 boot environment?
The box also has a syscons(4), which unfortunately is not
initialized (by
design) in embedded versions (both branches). I'll try the same two
CF on a
soekris net4801 (no syscons) later this week, then report back the
results.
Thanks,
Angelo.

By chance did the VGA console come up with the menu?
