it will sound just fine, but you will find that horizontal sources get pulled upwards quite a bit (which is the "correct" behaviour really if you truncate a speaker system without any countermeasures).

if you want to avoid this, franz zotter et al. have demonstrated a solution a few years ago, i guess they called it the "energy preserving decoder". it makes horizontal sources stay nicely grounded. i don't know whether fons can provide a similar matrix for ambdec, all i know is his usual decoding method will start to float if you take away the bottom ring. for me, this "pull-up" is irritating enough that i try to avoid 3d setups which are truncated on the equator.
