A friend of mine, who is working as a translator, called me at work
late one night: she had received some documents she couldn't open and
asked if she could mail them to me in hope that I had some more
recent word-processor which could read them. I said I probably had
not, but that I had heard that MS had a freeware Word Viewer
available for download.
When I returned home, there was a mail waiting: she had downloaded
and installed the viewer and it was working fine. This was only a
couple of hours after the call. It wasn't difficult at all to find,
she said, when I talked to her later.
At least this is a case where MS should be praised, not bashed. I
think this shows a concern for their customers not having the very
latest version of Word and it also gives everyone else, who don't
want to use Word, an opportunity to read Word-documents.
