Dear all,
I am still trying to restore this old copy of Win3.1,
after I did a Win3.1 installation, I was only able to get 4 icons
on the desktop, so, as advised, I edited ProgMan.ini to include all of my
.GRP files
now, I have all my icons appearing on my desktop, yet when I click
into a group to try to open an application other than Excel like msword I
get a Can't find file win error message (: I Have tried using AltEnter
the application still will not open
I have been advised to edit win.ini yet this file seems so large and full
of numerous entries for Excel and seemingly containing different paths for
Word than those specified in AltEnter { missing a directory in the path }
I was wondering if the way I copied this copy of Windows is the reason for
this... I used DOS move to put/change \WINDOWS to \WINCOPY successfully
yet when I wanted to change it all back I guess not as carefully used DOS
COPY *.* to put all files in \WINCOPY back to \WINDOWS
this is when I initially started having difficulty opening Windows the way
I remembered it
so, I was ( with help ) able to get for a short time the entire desktop
only in the default font
I did a 6 disk Win3 re-installation on top of this and hence this is where
I was at with the 4 icons before I edited progman.ini
again, to all, sorry
for belaboring these problems, it is just that I have good software and
hard to recreate data on the desktop as I remember it
thanks to all who have been so patient with me
