Hello,
Dos copy works prety good, but it wont copy subdirectorys. This is
probably why directorys are missing.
Using dos XCOPY.exe whith /s /v will copy a directory whith all its sub
directorys and there subdirectorys. I don't think xcopy.exe will copy
hidden files, and I am not sure if there hidden files in c:\windows(3.X)
directory or not. You can do a attrib c:\windows\*.* > c:\attrib.txt this
will write a text file of the file attributes in a text file called
attrib.txt.
If there are files whith hidden or system attributes you can do a
mas slotter of them by doing attrib -s -h -r c:\windir\*.* and press enter.
This will remove the system hidden and read only attributes Changing them
to "a" or an archive atribute. Also attrib will have to be used in any
subdirectorys of c:\windows to change attributes. Like this, attrib
c:\windows\system\*.*, and c:\windows\fonts\*.* and so on. You may not need
to change attributes, but if you do need to do this in the futer remember to
use attrib whith the > c:\"textfilename".txt to make a record of attributes
to have as a reference.
here is a Xcopy.exe Example:
xcopy c:\windows\*.* c:\wincopy\*.* /s /v
will put every thing from c:\windows
in to c:\wincopy .
After that you can deltree c:\windows, I only say this becaus you had
mentioned using move.exe to move the windows directory to the
wincopy directory.
I suppose move.exe is a prety neat program, I always prefured to do the
xcopy and deltree manually.
