Does anyone know if the kingston overdrive 586/133 cpu might be
incompatible with redhat 5.2 or at least with the boot.img that installs
redhat? I've been up against this problem awhile.
The boot disk fails if I try to boot with the drive blank. If Ontrack is
in place, it will open the initial boot screen with the pretty colored
text, then hang on the initial loading, "loading initrd.img..." and the
machine will freeze.
First advice was the boot disk, but after numerous disks, and testing the
disk on another machine, it is clearly not the disk. Then thought it was
the backpack cdrom. That's been replaced with a regular cdrom.
Now I'm wondering if it's the kingston chip?
Anybody got a clue? I have successfully loaded debian Linux on the
machine, so it's not all linux distributions.
bye,
