Well, its not a SurvPC-compatible software allright. But you
can't say the idea is not good. I would be glad to have something
like this if it wasnt for the really high system requirements.
Some sort of an OS maybe, that can launch an OS emulation in
a virtual machine when needed and by this way work around the common
problem today of lots and lots of OS platforms types for each
program. IIRC that was partly an idea that was seposed to be
implemented in the Network Computer, that is you'll be able to use
a JavaOS/UNIX on the NC, and you could run a Windows program
from a remote server via emulation and so on. Perhaps what these
people at vmware need to do now is to work on the high-system
requirements.
One intresting example for such a thing was when I once installed
an Apple II emulator for Windows 95. That thing have created a
shell extension so when you attempt to run an Apple II disk binary,
the emulator would launch to run it instead. It gave you the false
feeling as if it was Windows itself that could run Apple II
programs. Ofcourse, I removed the extensions later. I just hate
Shell extensions. But I guess that my point on this topic is clear.
