Hello again,

I got my both Compaq Deskpro 286 running on penlightbatteries, but I still have one
problem. From one of the
systems I can not reach the serial or parallel ports (one of each). I have tried most
things, I have compared all
jumpersettings, except perhaps on front of the harddisks (the back is where the power
and IDE-cable are
connected, both disks are Conner Peripherial 40 mb, CP 341).

I also connected the disk with the failing system to the computer with the working
connection, same problem,
so it must be something on the harddisk. I also tried with another IDE-cable, and I
tried not loading different
devices as well as copying com.sys to a different directory. Nothing works. I only get
"Write fault error writing
device com1" etc. I also replaced the motherboard with one, that has a mathprocessor
and 2 mb memory. Only
the floppydrive, the harddisk and the controller card are the same (well, the speaker
and some contacts too).

I have MS-DOS 5 and com1 on IRQ3. The diagnostic program says com1 os OK, it is not. I
also can not load
the mousedriver.

What I want to do is to connect to my Pentium to transfer some programs like
QuattroPro and Windows 3.0 to
using Filelink from DR-DOS. I have it on the other Compaq, it runs very well.

I could not find any documentation on this disk (CP 341) and nothing about the pins in
the front for similar
disks. One pair is for the LED, the rest are for serial functions, but I can not
imagine, that it would have
anything to do with the ports.

I also installed the disk on my Pentium (setting type 17 in the CMOS) but it did not
work at all, but this was
most likely because I did something the wrong way.

Any suggestions what I should do????

Per B.
