Bjorn:

My only experience with BeOS was to use their web page and try to sign
up as a developer. The script for their "submit" button didn't work. I
send an email with URL to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Never heard a word. So I
get to keep my $299 USD and will "wait and see" what the other folks
have to say.

Also tried to go to their Developer's Conference in March. Same thing.
So I saved $99 USD.

I guess you can say I have had rather good luck with the BeOS folks in
saving me money :-)

I hope they do get something to working. I think the world of computer
OS's is about like the spring ground hog thing in England and North
America:
Will he see his shadow or not?
And what will he do if he does or does not see it?

Something could happen to the OS World, just because the whole interest
level is increasing as shown by the fact that we are joking about
possible chance of failure when changing to a non-M$ OS. Shows me
something is afoot, don't know what but something is moving around
someplace out there <http://www.xfiles.com/> is probably a good place to
start looking :-))

A Crack in the Wall
By Jean-Louis Gasse

You're the CEO of a PC OEM, delivering some great news to Wall
Street: "In an effort to offer greater variety and performance to the
customer, our factory now installs three operating systems on the
hard disk -- Windows, Linux, and the BeOS. The reaction has been
spectacular. Customers love having a choice of OS, and the press --
from John Dvorak in PC Magazine to John Markoff in the New York Times
to Walt Mossberg in the Wall Street Journal -- has heralded us for
our bold move. This is a great step forward for the consumer and for
the industry. Oh, and by the way, we lost $50 million since we no
longer qualify for Windows rebates. But it's a sacrifice for the
   common good."

You're now the ex-CEO of a PC OEM.
