The final shareware version, I believe, is 2.85, since the zip file is
vmix285.zip. The documentation within this last version has similar
forward-looking remarks about the future of VMiX (dependent upon registered
supporters).

I have searched four11 and others like it. Mr. Borras once had a
CompuServe address (which still shows up in searches), but is no longer
valid. There is an Anthony Borras in Florida, but he's a criminal attorney
in Florida, and his resume there reveals nothing about a software
programming background. There's also a Juan A. Borras with an e-mail
address in Barcelona, Spain; I wrote an English note to that address without
a response of any kind. J. Anthony's CompuServe Internet address belonged
to "Anthony Borras", without the "J.", as living in Corona Del Mar,
California. There is no one listed there with that name at this time
-- but it *was* his address at one time -- that's for certain. The
"Spanish" address is an MSN address, but I have no way of knowing
whether that's our Anthony's address or not.
Do you recall if Anthony had a foreign accent?
