I actually owned one of these. Rather, I owned an Olivetti M24 which was the
European version. I recall that the 6300 was a re-packaged version of the
gray M24 in white with a somewhat different monitor.

Any external modem should work with the appropriate communications software.
I recall using Crosstalk and Telix, etc. with no problems. I can't really
help with the parts though. I seem to recall that the monitor connector was
VERY proprietary as well.

If AT&T didn't re-do the case, the were two captive screws in the top-rear
corners. You had to loosen those first (they don't come out). If I remember
right, you slid the top of the case off towards the front (hands at the
sides with thumbs pushing against the bottom 1" grille).

One of my first forays into programming was writing a program to read the
real-time clock off the BIOS and plug it into DOS (v3.3 or so). I pored over
the BIOS code for some time (Olivetti included it in the owner's manual) and
distinctly remember that the clock ran out well before Y2K -- 1987 possibly?
Sorry I can't help more. I traded mine for a Mac SE some years ago. I
sometimes regret it, but it was simply too big to keep around for
sentimental reasons. I've got the old manuals out in the garage somewhere.
